Hogchute Events

Our collective’s flagship project is the Hogchute Opry, a DIY, independent one-day showcase of independent, Americana-adjeacent (we use this term loosely) music and culture. We hesitate to call it a “festival”. Our small team does it all ourselves, keeps sponsorships local and at a minimum, and tries to provide a positive and communal place for enjoying music and the moment.

You can call it a concert, party, happening, whatever - most people tell us it’s just plain magic.

The Opry began in 2013, as an simple idea for an offbeat showcase of local Americana music and art. The now twice-yearly event (Hogchute Opry every June, Hogchute Harvest every October) is held in a remote barn in the woods, at the Kalyx Center for Sustainability in rural Monticello, IL (roughly 30 minutes from Champaign-Urbana, nearly equidistant from Chicago, St. Louis, and Indianapolis). Intimate environs, earnest artists, and eager listeners help create what we believe is a truly unique experience for performers and attendees alike.

We are proud of the musical pedigree of our little town, and believe deeply in the music and art being created in this place at this very moment by a truly talented array of people. Our community loves music. It's in the water here.

Although we pay special attention to showcasing our area's best emerging and long-standing acts, we're also proud to have had our barn's stage graced by touring acts like Ryley Walker, Adam Remnant, Jack Grelle, Christy Hays, Chris Porter & the Bluebonnet Rattlesnakes, and are always looking to bring new friends into the barn from outside of Illinois.

We try not to say too much about the Opry. Keeping a fairly low profile keeps the event what it is, which is something special.

As folks have been known to say, Happy Hogchute!
